Mumbai doctor admits to raping patient in ICU

Mumbai doctor admits to raping patient in ICU
Mumbai: A doctor at a private hospital in Mumbai has allegedly confessed to raping a woman patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Medical reports available with the police also confirm the crime.

The victim was admitted at Lotus Hospital on Saturday after she attended a dandia event with her husband, where she complained that she was not feeling well.

Dr Vishal Vanne ,who was attending to her, has reportedly admitted that he raped her hours later. He has been arrested.

The patient's husband told NDTV on Saturday, "The doctor told me that she was fine and asked me to go and rest. The doctor kept watch and waited for other patients to fall asleep. After that he started touching my wife. After that, he put his hands all over her body. My wife tried to shout for help but he put his hands on her mouth. My wife was very scared."

Hospital officials say the ICU had two patients and two female staff members - a nurse and a domestic helper. Between 4:15 and 4:45 am on Sunday morning, the nurse suffered an asthma attack and had to be taken to the general ward by the domestic helper.

It's during this period, the victim's husband says, that the doctor attacked his wife.  "Why have they kept a nurse with an asthma problem with a patient in the ICU?" he asks.

The patient's husband also claims that the hospital's management tried to deflect the blame by suggesting that his wife was mentally unstable.

The patient's husband also claims that the hospital's management tried to deflect the blame by suggesting that his wife was mentally unstable. The hospital owner, Dr Abhijit Bagul, denies this.

"We deeply regret what has happened in our hospital premises and we stand by the patient and her family," he said.
