Mumbai contractor's body allegedly left unattended for 9 hours

Mumbai: The body of a contractor employed by the Naval Dockyard was allegedly left unattended outside St George's Hospital in Mumbai for nine hours on Thursday night.

Surendra Pratap Gupta died while he was at the Naval Dockyard, repairing a ship named Masoor. His associates said they were working near the ship when a colleague Mohd Arif found Gupta's body.

Ganesh Sahu, Gupta's nephew alleged that his uncle's body was lying outside the St George's Hospital for nine hours.

Ganesh also added that the family was not informed of Gupta's death. "I was later told that when he died, a navy doctor was called. However, when my uncle did not respond, they took him to the hospital and left him outside."

Suresh Salunke, investigating officer from MRA Marg (Azad Maidan) police station said, "We have registered a case. We are yet to know the reason of his death. We will be questioning the navy doctor too, who treated Gupta at the time of the incident."

The results of the post mortem report are still awaited.
