Mumbai-based starlet alleges harassment by actor

Bangalore: When Bhavani Gandhi, an aspiring starlet and a Mumbai-based model was asked to come to Bangalore a fortnight ago, little did she expect that she will return home cheated.

In a complaint to the Kumaraswamy Layout police, she accused an aspiring actor, Gowtham Verma, a still photographer and a Kannada movie producer for trying to bring disrepute by outraging her modesty.

In an FIR filed by the police, Bhavani Gandhi, a resident of West Andheri in Mumbai stated that she was asked to get her portfolio to undergo a screen test for a new Kannada movie produced by HC Lingaraju of Chamarajapet.

"Gowtham Verma and the producer asked me to go over to a studio on Kanakapura Road, owned by photographer Mahendra. At the studio they asked me to pose in different postures and took several pictures," she alleged.

Based on her complaint, the Kumaraswamy Layout police registered a case under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 292 (obscene representation of a person), 506 (criminal intimidation) read with section 34 (common intention) of IPC. However, police found that there was no incriminating acts committed by the accused.

Assistant commissioner of police (Banashankari sub-division), HT Ramesh said police summoned Mahendra and seized all the photographs. "We have not found anything obscene in these photographs. Gandhi wants the accused to repay the expenses she incurred during her trip to Bangalore and back. Otherwise, we feel that there was no case made out of it," the officer said.

The police are now trying to solve the case after getting statements from Verma, Lingaraju and Gandhi.
