MLA beaten, robbed in his constituency
New Delhi: Sunil Kumar Vaidya, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator was beaten and robbed on Tuesday night while he was visiting Trilokpuri, his constituency in east Delhi.

Vaidya was attacked around 7.45 p.m. while he was on a visit to New Ashok Nagar area of Trilokpuri.

"They had sticks and knives, and started banging my SUV (sport utility vehicle), asking me to come out. As I stepped out, they slapped and abused me," Vaidya said on Wednesday.

He added: "When I told them I was the legislator of the area, they said they didn't care and beat me with sticks. They also took away my watch and wallet."

The 33-year-old legislator, who did not receive any major injuries in the attack, said some locals came to his rescue and saved him.

A complaint was registered in New Ashok Nagar police station. "Vaidya has given the names of people involved in the attack and we are trying to trace them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) K.C. Dwivedi said.

Vaidya said he will meet Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal later on Wednesday to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the national Capital.

"You can judge the situation of law and order in Delhi when a legislator is not safe. I am really concerned for the safety of common people," he added.

Vaidya alleged that he was not given adequate security despite asking for it several times.
