Miraculous escape for three-year-old who fell into borewell
Krishnagiri: A three year old boy who fell into a 520 feet deep bore well had a miraculous escape in the Krishnagiri district of Tamilnadu. Police say that Guna - a farmer's son was fortunately trapped at 20 foot, but it took them over five hours to pull him out. "The Police and Rescue Department Officials dug a parallel pit to rescue him," explained Superintendent of Police, M Ashok Kumar.

Guna fell into the newly sunk bore well at 10 am. The bore well was in their own property near Hosur and he fell into it while playing with his brother. Their mother was washing nearby when the accident happened.

The tube well sunk just three days ago did not strike water.  The family had decided to abandon it.  They had removed the pipe but had not filled the bore well.

The traumatised boy is being treated in the Krishnagiri Government Hospital. It's not clear whether the police would file any case of negligence against the boy's parents or the concerned operator who sunk the bore well.

After a similar incident which ended in a loss of life in Theni district around seven years ago the Tamilnadu Government had  launched  a drive to ensure all abandoned bore wells are sealed so that they don't turn into death traps. Owners and bore well operators too were made responsible to ensure newly dug bore wells are covered immediately. While the state has successfully averted such tragedies over the last six years, Sunday's accident, many say underscores the need for concerned authorities to maintain vigil without complacency.
