Mercury dips in Punjab and Haryana

Chandigarh: The mercury dipped further by three degrees Celsius below normal in Punjab and Haryana, even as the region was engulfed in mist and haze.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Rohtak was coldest with a low of 5.2 degrees Celsius which was three notches below normal, the MET office said here.

Amritsar in Punjab shivered at a low of six degrees Celsius followed by eight degrees Celsius at Narnaul, one notch below normal and 8.4 degrees Celsius at Bhiwani.

While, Karnal settled at a low of 8.8 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, the minimum temperature at Patiala in Punjab was 9.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

Among other places, Ambala had a low of 9.6 C, which was one notch above normal and 10.3 C at Ludhiana, which was two notches above normal.

While, Chandigarh had a low of 11 C, three notches above normal, the minimum temperature at Hisar was 11.2 C, which was also three notches above normal.

Cloudy sky with mist or haze during morning and night will continue in the region in the next few days, according to the Met forecast.
