Burdwan, West Bengal:
A man was beaten to death for allegedly attempting to steal from a house on the bypass at Kanchan Nagar in Burdwan town.
Superintendent of Police S H Mirza said Sikandar Poddar (23) was beaten to death by locals when he was allegedly found to making attempts to steal from a house with one of his aides, Kazi.
The locals caught Sikandar but Kazi managed to flee, he said.
Sikandar was an accused of several cases of dacoity and stealing in the town, the police said.
