J&K landslide: Narrow escape for over 100 people

Srinagar: Over 100 people had a narrow escape when a massive landslide damaged 20 houses in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector.

The landslide triggered by incessant rains came rolling down on village Chadyan around 4 pm on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Uri Naresh Jamwal, who led a rescue team to the landslide-hit village, said no one was killed or injured in the incident.

Of the 60 houses, 20 were extensively damaged and are not worth living now, the officer said.

All the affected people have been shifted to Triganbagh, half a kilometre away from the village. They have been accommodated in sheds and provided food, he said.

Deputy Commissioner (Baramulla) B A Shah said rescue teams have been dispatched, who would be helping the affected.
