Heavy vehicles banned on four roads during peak hours

Pune: The city traffic police issued a notification on Wednesday banning movement of heavy vehicles on four important roads falling under Chatuhshrungi traffic division between 9 am and noon, and 5 pm to 8 pm.

According to the notification, which has been approved by the state home department, the four roads are Pashan Road (Shivaji Chowk to Pune University), Baner Road (Baner Phata to Pune University), Aundh Road (Bremen Chowk to Pune University), and Range Hills Road (Symphony Circle to Ganeshkhind Road).

The deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Manoj Patil, said the main reason behind the ban was the heavy density of traffic at the university junction during peak hours. "It creates problems for commuters and small vehicles. The decision has been taken to ensure that the traffic flow is made smooth," he said, adding that it has been implemented with immediate effect.

According to the traffic branch officials, when two heavy vehicles ply parallel to each other on these roads, the traffic flow is hindered. There have been incidents of breakdown of heavy vehicles during peak hours, resulting in traffic jams.

There have also been cases where the heavy vehicles have been involved in serious accidents, resulting in casualties.
