Girl dies as dupatta gets entangled in conveyor belt

Coimbatore: In a freak incident, a 27-year-old girl student was strangled to death after her dupatta got entwined in the belt of a machine in the laboratory of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, police said on Wednesday.

C Sreejana, an MSc student of Soil Science from Kathmandu, was doing her research work when the incident happened on Tuesday night.

Sreejana was focused on the work and did not realise that her dupatta had got entangled in the conveyor belt of the machine, used for grinding leaves and plants, her friends said.

A fellow student immediately alerted authorities, who in turn informed the police. The police, who registered a case, however, denied any foul play as the student was in the habit of working alone in the lab.
