With the Babri Masjid verdict being delivered today, MiD DAY found Jayachitra, who every year remembers December 6, 1992, as a day of tension and fear despite giving birth to a baby girl on the same day.
Sonitha Murthy, who grew up listening to how her mother spent three sleepless nights fearing for her father's security and life, admitted that she considers her birthday to be a 'horrible day'.
But for Jayachitra and her husband M Dakshinamurthy, a civil contractor, Sonitha's birthday remains a panic-stricken and tension-filled memory.
Owing to the curfew imposed across the country because of the riots that followed after the demolition of the masjid, Dakshinamurthy, who was travelling from Bangalore to his home in Tamil Nadu, reached four days after Sonitha was born.
Remembering how she imagined that terrible things could have happened to her husband on the way, 35-year-old Jayachitra said, "I was praying to God that my husband reaches safely, all the time."
Sonitha hopes that the issue will get resolved with the verdict today. "This issue has created a lot of misunderstanding between the two concerned communities."
Dakshinamurthy was stuck in a hotel room at Hosur for four consecutive days with a constant fear of being attacked, and not much to eat. With all the approach roads to Tamil Nadu being blocked at that time, he had prayed incessantly so that he could meet his newborn.
"It will remain an unforgettable memory for us. We hope such communal troubles never happen again so that no father should be separated from his new born for so many days," said Jayachitra.
