Ahmednagar, Maharashtra: An eight-year-old mentally challenged girl has allegedly been raped by her maternal uncle and his brother. The accused allegedly lured the victim after promising her a vada-pav (a local snack) and then raped her. The incident took place on Saturday night in Siddharthnagar area in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

"They lured my daughter with the promise of a vada pav. They took her with them and raped her. When she complained about bleeding, I took her to the hospital," the victim's mother told reporters.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged and a case has been registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code at the Topkhana Police Station in Ahmednagar.

Medical test reports of the victim are awaited.

Locals allege there was a delay in collecting her swabs and providing treatment to her. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Ahmednagar and is out of danger.

"This is a very serious and shameful incident. The girl's 35-year-old uncle lured her with the promise of food and attempted to rape her. Based on the girl's mother's complaint we have registered a case and arrested the uncle. We will take strong action and those involved will not be spared. The accused's brother came to the hospital and had an altercation with the victim's family so we detained him too.
