Delhi Government Sends Deficiency Notices to App-Based Taxi Companies

The Delhi government has sent deficiency notices to web app-based taxi companies which had applied for licenses.

New Delhi: The Delhi government's Transport Department has dispatched deficiency memos to all the web app based cab services which had applied for radio cab licenses last week, saying their applications license applications were incomplete.

The memo comes at a time when some of the companies have resumed their services following a ban that had been imposed after a female executive was raped by the driver of a taxi provided by Uber. The Delhi Police has said it considers the resumption of services a violation of the ban, and has prosecuted over a hundred vehicles belonging to all these cab services.

The deficiency memos have been sent to Uber, Ola, Taxi for Sure and NTL among others. After banning the web app based taxi services, the government said they would be allowed to resume services if they got themselves registered and fulfilled all the criteria laid down by the Transport Department.

But a week after these applications were filed, the deficiency memos have been sent. The memo sent to Uber for instance, lists out that the company through which Uber has applied for a license is not mandated to provide public transport service. Also missing are an affidavit of the company, an undertaking for parking taxis, a telephone number, an email address, address proof of a registered office in Delhi, call centre arrangement details and a feedback mechanism for users.

Uber had applied for a radio cab license last week, through a front company based in Delhi, named Resourceexpert India. But despite their application not even being cleared, the US-based company had resumed its services in Delhi.
