Khanna, Punjab:
A couple staged a drama to secure a ransom of Rs 10 lakh by informing the husband's NRI brother and parents that he had been kidnapped, police said on Monday.
The couple has been arrested. Khanna SSP DP Singh said the plot was revealed when Amritpal Singh, who was found unconscious near rail tracks after the ransom had been paid, told the police that Rubina Kapoor kidnapped him. On questioning Rubina, the police discovered that both of them colluded to fool Amritpal's parents and his NRI brother as the couple was having financial troubles.
Amritpal left village Chankoyia Khurd a few days back on the pretext of going to Kurukshetra to study. But he instead went to Ambala where he secretly married a girl, Rubina Kapoor, and took up a rented accommodation.
