Cheerleaders pull crowds for kabaddi

Lucknow: There is a sense of expectation about the Indian Premier League jamboree about to begin next month. Not least because of the cheerleaders that shall entertain and exhort as the teams play cricket in technicolour.

Cheerleading, however, is no more the preserve of elite cricket. Lucknow saw its own small-town version at a kabaddi match, which witnessed a far bigger turnout than usual as it had cheerleaders egging the teams on with their song and dance routine.

The enthused audience - of all ages - enjoyed the performance and even the players admitted that the presence of cheerleaders had pulled in far more people for their game.

Perhaps, just the fillip the indigenous sport needed to gain popularity.
