Chappal offering for 'sex swami'

Bangalore: After over 50 days of being untraceable, the law finally caught up with 32-year-old Rajendran, whom the world knows as Swami Nithyananda.

On Wednesday, Nithyananda and his associates were arrested at a small village in Solan district in Himachal Pradesh. Soon after Nithyananda was being taken to jail from the Magistrate office, the swami was attacked with a chappal by a teacher named Sreenivas. It is not clear as to why he threw the chappal.

A team of CID officials is all set to interrogate the tainted godman, who faces charges of rape and unnatural sex, besides fraud and hurting religious sentiment. Earlier in March, sex videos featuring the swami and a Tamil actress created a furore in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He had been missing ever since the video was broadcast by TV channels.

However, Nithyananda's lawyer, Chandrashekhar says, "He was not absconding. As anticipatory bail petition was pending, he was away from the ashram."

His lawyers will move court for bail today.
