BJP corporator with four kids faces heat

Gandhinagar: A recently-elected BJP municipal corporator of Ahmedabad is in the dock with the Congress demanding his disqualification on the ground that he has more children than permitted.

The Odhav Ward Congress Committee of Ahmedabad has in a letter to the state Election Commission has demanded BJP corporator Ramesh Parmar's immediate disqualification on the ground that he has four children.

"While he already had three children before the election notification of 2005 that did not permit any candidate with more than two children to contest the local self-government body elections, he had had a fourth child July 6, 2008," the letter stated.

President of the Odhav Congress Revabhai Desai, who has sent the letter said Wednesday, this violates the rules framed by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government which barred those with more than two children from contesting the elections.

He also said the corporator himself stays in an illegally constructed house though he owns 12 houses which have been rented out.
