Bhopal: Six killed as police van hits four vehicles

Bhopal: Six people were killed and 10 others injured when a police van hit four vehicles at the busy Royal Market area in Bhopal today, police said.

The incident happened when the driver of the van, which was bringing back some prisoners from Hamidia Hospital to Bhopal jail, lost control over the vehicle and hit two motorbikes, an auto-rickshaw and a mini bus, they said.

Six people, including a minor girl student, were killed and 10 others injured in the mishap, City SP Sharad Chandra Dubey said, adding that investigation is on to ascertain the exact reason behind the mishap.

Meanwhile, angry locals pelted stones at the van protesting the incident. Police used mild lathicharge to bring the situation under control.
     
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, the SP said.
