A lemon, offered to the presiding deity of a village temple in Erode district on Tamil New Year
day, fetched authorities a staggering Rs 8,100 when auctioned.
A total of 16 lemons, 20 packets of salt and ten packets of turmeric powder were offered by devotees at the Satayappa Swami temple in Kandasamypalayam as part of celebrations on Wednesday.
A devotee took the lemon for Rs 8,100 when the offerings were auctioned as per traditional practice, temple authorities said.
It is believed that the offering would bring prosperity throughout the year to its receiver, they said.
The temple got Rs 19,400 by auctioning the lemons, Rs 2,790 by salt and Rs 5,000 by turmeric powder.
