Amritsar shivers at minus 0.6 C
Chandigarh: Bone-chilling cold conditions prevailed in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, with mercury dropping by six notches below normal with Amritsar remaining the coldest place recording a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.

Amritsar, the border district of Punjab, recorded the season's lowest which was five degrees below normal, the MET office said in Chandigarh.

Ambala in Haryana shivered at 0.8 C, dipping by six degrees below normal, while Rohtak (1.2), Narnaul (3) and Karnal recorded a low of 3.6 C, which was less than four degrees against normal.

Bhiwani and Hissar recorded minimum temperatures of 4.0 C and 6.0 C respectively.

Chandigarh also witnessed mercury dropping by three degrees below normal with 3.4 C.

In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala saw mercury settling at 3.1 C and 4.3 C respectively, dipping by three notches below normal.

As per MET forecast, days will mainly be clear while fog and mist will continue in several places of Punjab and Haryana during day and night.
