Allahabad: Mentally challenged man rescued

New Delhi: A 22-year-old mentally challenged man was rescued from the clutches of his abductor in Allahabad, who had allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom for his release, police said today.

Pradeep was allegedly abducted by Rahul (22), a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur, about ten days ago and he was rescued from Allahabad on Saturday, a senior police official said.

Rahul came to know that Pradeep's family has huge property and they were rich. So he allegedly hatched a plan to kidnap Pradeep and demand money for his release, the official said.

"Rahul told Pradeep he will get a match for him if he goes with him. He then took him to Allahabad," the official said.

Initially, the official said, a case of missing was registered but later it was converted to a case of abduction after the family received the ransom call of Rs 15 lakh.

Police was informed and after technical surveillance, a team was sent to Allahabad where Pradeep was rescued and Rahul arrested.
