Ahmedabad: Police stations to welcome visitors with tea, periodicals

Ahmedabad: The newly appointed city police commissioner approves of people-friendly way of policing. In this regard, he has proposed the setting up of Citizen Felicitation Centres (CFCs) in the city police stations in the near future. These centres will serve hot tea, water as well as magazines and newspapers to citizens.

Confirming the news, joint police commissioner, administration, Dr Meera Ramnivas said the expenses will be bore from the funds the department receives from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Schemes (MPLADS). From the fund's money, the department will also purchase 17 PCR vehicles and over 200 bullet proof jackets among others, added Ramnivas.

In fact, police commissioner Amitabh Pathak has already set up a CFC at his office recently. So if you happen to meet him or visit any of the police stations are planning to meet him then be ready for some hot cup of tea and chilled-filtered water! As of now, this is a temporary set up but as sources say it will soon be renovated.

"We are informing all the police stations across the city about the setting up of the CFCs," said a source close to the development.

Sources said the CFC will provide basic sitting arrangement for people visiting the police station. And as per the set up there will be a water cooler and a tea vending machine exclusively for citizens, they added.

The plan aims to change the present face of the police department and modernise it a bit too. "Not only it will equip the police with better equipment in maintaining law and order but will also help in bringing out a people-friendly police impression," sources added.
