After Pune blast, tight vigil at Delhi tourist hubs

After Pune blast, tight vigil at Delhi tourist hubs
New Delhi: After the Pune blasts, the security has been tightened at most places in Delhi that are popular with the foreign tourists.

The city's Paharganj bazaar is one such popular hangout. For the police and security agencies, this area is always high on the watch list.

More so after Lashkar terror suspect David Headley, during his visit to Delhi in June 2008, stayed at two hotels here.

Like Pune's Koregaon, Paharganj too has a Chabad House and a German bakery next door. Headley is believed to have visited the Chabad house as well.

And now after bakery blast in Pune, as a fresh alert is issued in Delhi, there's tight security at the Chabad House.

"We have been issued orders to check everyone's passport. Only after checking and with the permission of the Chabad house caretakers we allow visitors inside," said Hafiz Ahmen, Delhi Police officer.

But at the German Bakery it's business as usual, though the focus now is on security.

"After the attack in Pune the SHO came for a round himself and ordered us to check the register for Indians and foreigners alike," said bakery owner Ronni.

While the police is tightening up security in Paharganj and significantly around the Chabad House, the tourists on the other hand believe that the only to defeat the terror is by being brave.

"We cannot bow down and sit inside our homes," said Gily, an Israeli Tourist.

"I am not afraid of anything here though there were alerts here. It is common thing these days," said Antonina, another tourist from Poland.

It's this spirit the terrorists will never be able to shatter.
