2 British men arrested for plane-spotting in Delhi

New Delhi: Two British nationals were being questioned for filming planes at an airport and listening to conversations between the cockpits and the air traffic control. They say it was just a hobby and nothing sinister.

For the last 24 hours, a fourth floor room of the Radisson near the Delhi airport suddenly turned into a virtual interrogation room.

The hotel staff had noticed that 2 guests of the hotel - Britishers 40-year-old Stephen Hampston and 50-year-old Steven Martin were behaving strangely.

The hotel staff got suspicious when they found the two taking pictures of the airport from their window. They called the police when they found them also using high resolution binoculars.

Initial investigations have revealed the two were using a lap top on which a special software was downloaded to hear into conversation between pilots and air traffic control. They were also using other sophisticated equipment to monitor flights.

The two men have told the investigators they are railway employees in UK and pursue plane spotting as a hobby for which they have travelled to several countries.

Currently the two have not being formally detained but are being questioned by several security agencies

Meanwhile the foreigner detained at the airport 6 days ago, US national Winston Marshall continues to wait for verification at the Lampur detention center. Police say they are waiting for the forensic reports on the alloy he was carrying with the blade. They have sent reminders to the FBI who are yet to send their report.
