18 children injured as school bus overturns

Mathura: Eighteen children were injured on Saturday when a school bus overturned near Gohari curve, 30 km from Mathura, a senior police official said.

The incident occurred at around 8.15 am, when the bus was going from Gram Datona to Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Kosi Kalan, Mathura Superintendent of Police (City) Ram Kishore Verma said.

However, the children suffered minor injuries in the accident and have been sent to their homes after being given first-aid at a nursing home in Kosi Kalan, a small town in the district, Verma said.

There was no lapse on part of the driver, the official said.

The bus was taken to Chata Police Station after the incident, but it was sent back to the school when it was found that there was no lapse on the driver's part, the SP (city) said.

He also clarified that the bus was not rammed by a truck as earlier believed.

"The bus was not hit by any truck. There was another accident involving a truck and a tractor near the area where this incident took place within a gap of 10-15 minutes," he said.
