Chennai: Busting a high-end prostitution racket which involved online transfers of money and the use of social media, city police have rescued a woman from a star hotel here and are searching for the kingpin.

A special team of Anti-Vice Squad recently rescued the young woman, who was later produced in a court and lodged in a government home, police said.

A search was on for one Mohan Singh who allegedly forced the woman, hailing from outside Tamil Nadu, into prostitution.

The man used to solicit customers through online media including WhatsApp, a police release said today.

Singh, who is absconding, had been receiving payments from his 'clients' through online fund transfers, it said.

The racket came to light during vigil being kept by police on a directive from city Police Commissioner S George following information that some persons were forcing gullible young woman from other states into the flesh trade by promising them opportunities in Tamil movies and teleserials, the release said.
