Mumbai: A massive fire that broke out during a cultural event at the 'Make In India Week' in Mumbai on Sunday evening was put out after efforts by fire fighters for nearly 30 minutes. Top politicians, celebrities and industrialists were among 8,000 people present there.

Here are the Ten Developments in the big story from Mumbai:

  1. The 'Maharashtra Night' was the flagship event of the state government and a number of politicians - including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor C Vidyasagar Rao -- and celebrities were attending it.

  2. The Chief minister, Governor, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, actor Aamir Khan and actor-politician Hema Malini were safely evacuated. Amitabh Bachchan was also present but had left by the time the fire started.

  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Mr Fadnavis regarding the fire, the PM's office tweeted. Mr Fadnavis later said that all programs will proceed as scheduled.

  4. The programme was being held at the city's famous Girgaum Chowpatty beach, for which the authorities had to take permission from the Supreme Court.

  5. The fire started just after Amitabh Bachchan's performance, when a lavani or Maharashtrian dance was underway. It spread rapidly, with the strong wind from the sea till the stage -- a creation of Bollywood set designer Nitin Desai -- was gutted.

  6. "14 Fire engines, 10 Water Tankers, and all Sr. Fire Officers are on site. Fire now totally under control. Program called off," Chief Minister Mr Fadnavis tweeted.  A comprehensive inquiry will be be held to ascertain the reasons,  he added.

  7. "A small spark in front of the stage caused fire and it spread because of the wind," said the chief of Mumbai fire brigade.

  8. Besides an 8,000-strong audience, there were 4,000 crew members. A tragedy was averted as the programme was being held at an open area. The people could rush to the beach and the Marine Drive.

  9. Praising the evacuation efforts of the authorities, actor Aamir Khan said, "The police and fire department did a wonderful job. Also, I have to congratulate the Chief Minister for leading from the front."

  10. The Make in India Week -- a showcase event for the state government's flagship manufacturing scheme - was inaugurated by PM Modi on Saturday. Government delegations from 49 nations and business delegations from 68 are taking part in the week-long event.
