Arvind Kejriwal Presents One Year Report Card, Waives Off Water Bills

For two hours, AAP ministers answered phone calls from people, took their feedback and offered them a report card of the government.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers held a public interaction session on Sunday as Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party government completed one year in office, announcing a waiver of water bills pending till November last year.

  1. Waiving off water bills worth nearly Rs 3,000 crore, the Chief Minister also promised to restore water connections for unauthorized colonies. "We stand firm on our commitment for cheap water. We have been working on this," he said. 

  2. "We completed one year today. Now the servants of the people are standing before their masters to provide explanations," Mr Kejriwal said. He said his government has not let a single penny of taxpayers' money go to "waste".

  3. A two-hour programme was conducted from the NDMC Convention Centre in Connaught Place.

  4. "Do u hv any Q from Del govt? I, alongwith my cabinet, will directly answer ur Qs. Call at 011-41501367, 41501383, 23346658 betn 11AM to 1 pm(sic)" Mr Kejriwal tweeted this morning. In another tweet, he said, "Last year, on this day, Delhi fell in love with AAP. This bonding is deep n everlasting."

  5. There will be Mohalla Clinics in each locality. Free X-Ray, surgery and medicines will be available free of charge at all government hospitals, he said.

  6. Later, the government inaugurated 20 Aam Aadmi polyclinics which have out-patient departments for various specialties.

  7. Mr Kejriwal had earlier said his cabinet will give an account of work done in one year to the people of Delhi. He has reportedly ordered various departments to give details.

  8. There have been other government events in the run-up to the anniversary, including the announcement of the second phase of the odd-even vehicle programme earlier this week.

  9. Mr Kejriwal and his cabinet took oath last year on February 14 -- exactly a year after he quit as Chief Minister after a 49 day-stint in power. In face of harsh criticism, he had apologised to Delhi and "Paanch Saal Kejriwal (Kejriwal for five years)" became both his slogan and a poll promise.

  10. The opposition BJP, which has only three members in the 70-member Delhi assembly, plans to hold a protest rally on Sunday. Over the last year, the AAP government has been in continuous tussle with the BJP-led government at the Centre.
