Day 2 of 26,000-crore Bharat bandh: factories attacked in Delhi
A flash mob attacked at least eight factories in the capital on Thursday during the final day of a two-day nationwide strike called by major trade unions, police said.

71 people have been arrested for yesterday's vandalism in Noida. At least 25 vehicles, including a fire engine, were set on fire and a factories were vandalised in hosiery complex. The factory-owners say they suffered a loss of Rs. 600 crore and allege that the police reached the sites of violence late. Read more

There's partial impact of the bandh in Bangalore too, where most IT firms and shops are open. However, fewer autos and buses can be seen on the roads. Schools and colleges are closed too.

10 reasons why workers are on a two-day strike

  1. Concrete measures to contain price rise.

  2. Concrete measures for employment generation.

  3. Strict enforcement of labour laws.

  4. Universal social security cover for organized and unorganized workers and creation of National Social Security Fund.

  5. Stoppage of disinvestment in central and state PSUs / undertakings.

  6. No contractorisation of work of permanent / perennial nature and payment of wages and benefits to the contract workers at the same rate as available to the regular workers of the industry / establishment.

  7. Amendment of Minimum Wages Act to ensure universal coverage irrespective of the schedules and fixation of statutory minimum wage at not less than Rs. 10, 000 linked with cost price index.

  8. Remove all ceilings on payment and eligibility of bonus, provident fund; increase the quantum of gratuity.

  9. Assured Pension for all.

  10. Compulsory registration of trade unions within a period of 45 days and immediate ratification of the ILO Conventions Numbers 87 and 98.

  • The two-day Bharat bandh called by 11 major trade unions today severely impacted banking services, crippled public transport in cities and claimed one person's life in violence.
  • Trade unionists said 10 crore workers will be taking part in the strike.

Bandh impact in Mumbai
India's financial sector was crippled as all banks, insurance companies and commercial establishments in Mumbai remained shut on the first of the two-day nationwide strike, Although suburban trains, buses, cabs and private vehicles here were running normally, the usual peak hour crowds were relatively thin.

Eleven major trade unions are scheduled to participate in the two-day nationwide strike. Trade unionists claim 10 crore workers will be taking part in the strike.The unions have put forward 10 demands, which mainly relate to checking of price rise, generation of employment, halting of disinvestment in public sector enterprises and implementation of labour laws.
