Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will not be able to attend Bal Thackeray's funeral as he would have to stay in Delhi due to work exigency. An order was issued recently states that in absence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from Delhi due to his foreign visit from today, either Defence Minister, Finance Minister or Home Minister will stay in Delhi, official sources said.
As the other two ministers are not in Delhi on Sunday, Mr Shinde will have to stay in Delhi and will not be able to attend Mr Thackeray's funeral, they said.

The Police Commissioner of  Mumbai, Satyapal Singh addressed the media and spoke about the funeral arrangements for Bal Thackeray's  funeral in Mumbai. He said arrangements were in place for the media, VIPs. The commissioner also said he had cancelled his daughter's wedding reception slated for tomorrow.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has been continuously monitoring law and order situation in the state in view of the deteriorating health of Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray.

"Last night, Mr Chavan held a high-level meeting with the chief secretary and top police officers. Since this morning,he is in constant touch with family members of the Sena chief," official sources said. Mr Chavan is expected to visit Mr Thackeray shortly.

Tight security is being maintained in areas considered Sena strongholds. These include Bandra (Near the Thackeray residence), Dadar (The headquarters of the Shiv Sena -Sena Bhavan).

Other areas like Parel, Lal Baug, Currey Road, Chinchpokli and Worli  in Central Mumbai, Jogeshwari and Vile Parle in the western suburbs and Ghatkopar, Mulund in Central suburbs are also seeing heavy police presence.
