Patna/Begusarai: An FIR has been registered against BJP president Amit Shah for his "chara chor" (fodder thief) barb against RJD president Lalu Prasad.

Additional Chief Election Officer R Lakshamanan told reporters that an FIR has been registered against Shah as his "chara chor" (fodder thief) comment on Mr Lalu Prasad was found to violate the model code of conduct.

The FIR, number 389/15, was registered against Mr Shah yesterday for violation of Representation of Peoples Act and relevant sections of IPC, he said.

Mr Shah while addressing BJP workers at Singhaul in Begusarai district on September 30 had described Mr Prasad as "chara chor".

In an apparent dig at the RJD chief, he had said Bihar which was once known by the name of Dr Rajendra Prasad, Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan and Karpoori Thakur is unfortunately today known by the name of "chara chor."

A report from Begusarai quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said the FIR against Mr Shah has been registered based on the report of Matihani assembly constituency magistrate Bhagirath Prasad.

Mr Shah, he said, has been booked under sections 171(G) and 188 of IPC.

Section 171(G) relates to false statement in connection with an election and Section 188 is disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.
