Pascal's bail plea hearing adjourned to August 30

Bangalore: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned to August 30 the hearing on a bail petition filed by French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, arrested on charges of raping his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Mazurier, Consular Attach to the Consulate General of France here, had moved the High Court on August seven seeking bail. Justice V Jagannathan had then adjourned the hearing asking the State to file its statement of objections.

Pramila Nesargi, counsel for Pascal's wife Suja Jones, who alleged that he had raped their daughter, wanted to intervene in the bail plea hearing, but the defence lawyer objected to it on the grounds that no petition has been filed by her, following which Justice Jagannathan adjourned the case to August 30.

Pascal, in his petition, had pointed out that as per the report of the test conducted by Forensic Sciences Laboratory here, his DNA profile did not match with the stains found on the childs body. The Fast Track Court-I, here had on July 27, rejected his plea for bail while observing that "though DNA test has not tallied with the DNA profile of the accused, bail cannot be granted to him only on this ground."

Pascal was arrested on June 19 after police booked him for raping his daughter based on a complaint filed by his wife.
