Killer gunned down in Bangalore was an IIT graduate
Bangalore: M Nagendra Reddy (30), an IIT Madras graduate involved in five murders including one in London, was gunned down in Bangalore yesterday. Reddy committed his first murder to impress a friend in London, before killing a friend for his sister and a third to escape from police custody. The police suspect that the last two murders were for money.

Wanted by the Interpol he had 13 cases against him. Around 4 am on Tuesday Morning, the City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths caught up with Reddy who had been in city for the last four days and was planning to rob a bank with help of D D Ravi, a notorious local goon.

On being warned, Reddy didn't stop and instead tried to run over the policemen. The cops fired a few warning shots, but Reddy fired back at a police constable. He was gunned down in the fire exchange that followed.

After finishing his studies from IIT Chennai in 2002, Reddy went back to his hometown Hyderabad, and started a company called South India Yellow Pages, which met with little success. After struggling for six months, he shut down the company, and joined another IT firm as a techie, but left the job after four months. He left for London, to join another firm, and befriended a colleague, Radhakrishna Chipura. In 2003, Chipura had a bitter argument with his girlfriend and she complained to Reddy. In a bid to impress the girl, Reddy killed Chipura and later rolled his body up in a carpet and burnt it. The girl is still absconding.

The London police started an investigation, but Reddy fled to Hyderabad before he could be arrested. After his return, Reddy tried to keep a low profile. Things were quiet for a while, but in 2005, on the New Year's Eve, he went to party with his childhood friends Rajesh and Madan Mohan Raj and his sister Harini to the Ramoji Rao Film City. During the party, Rajesh misbehaved with Harini, and Reddy decided to kill him.

Ten days after the incident, Reddy and Mohan killed Rajesh at Mahalaxmi Deluxe Lodge, and threw mutilated parts of his body on Mysore Road and Byatarayanapura. The police swung into action, arrested Reddy and Mohan, and sent them to Belgaum Hindalaga jail.

In 2006, Interpol sent a request to the Karnataka police to hand over Reddy. But when Reddy came to know of this, he started planning his escape. He inflicted an injury on his arm and got himself admitted to the District Civil Hospital. On May 10, 2009, he killed Chandrakant Shankar Kamble, his police guard, and escaped wearing his uniform.

Other than murders, Reddy was also involved in robberies, thefts and other cases. The Vizag police alone have more than 6 cases lodged against him. PI Balegouda (CCB), who led the shootout with KS Ashokan said, "He died while being taken to the hospital. He and Ravi had planned to rob a bank in two days."

U D Krishnakumar, who had investigated Reddy in 2005, said, "He had extended his contacts while in jail, and was planning to build his own gang."
