Drunken brawl led to double murder

Bangalore: The late night double murder at JP Nagar on Sunday was the fallout of a fight in a Jayanagar bar, police said on Monday.

Madhu alias Deva and Srinivasa alias Kalla Bheema, both residents of Ragigudda slum, were hacked to death around 11.35 pm by a gang at 9th Cross, 3rd Phase in JP Nagar. No arrests have been made.

The deceased men had picked up a fight with two men, Japamani and Anniyeppa at a bar, and later stabbed the former at Jayanagar 9th Block. Incidentally, the four were friends and were drinking together.

Anniyeppa got Japamani admitted to a hospital in Shankarapura. He then summoned his friends and went in search of the duo, police said.

The gang intercepted the two in JP Nagar and hacked them to death, before fleeing. Police said the gang comprised 10 to 12 members.

Bheema, jailed for pick-pocketing, was released a week ago. He had met Japamani while in prison.

Police said Bheema had been facing 25 cases of pickpocketing and robbery in the city. Deva was also a criminal.

Bheema's mother named Anniyappa, Babu, Mutyala and others of murdering her son in a complaint lodged with the JP Nagar police.

JP Nagar police inspector SK Umesh said the gang fled the city after committing the double murder.
