Bengaluru Gets A Break From Rain, Day After IT City Saw Boats On Roads
Bengaluru: A day after most parts of Bengaluru were left inundated after incessant rain since Thursday night, commuters get a huge relief as there has been no rain in the city since last evening.

Major intersections in the city that were flooded yesterday have now dried up. The met office has forecast moderate to heavy rain today in Karnataka.

Incessant rain on Thursday turned Bengaluru's formidable traffic jams into a horror story, including on roads near Electronics City, which houses Infosys and thousands of IT workers.

The fire department used boats to rescue people who were stranded in the rain waters. On Ring Road, usually a 30-minute drive from Electronics City, people were seen fishing.

Fallen trees added to the problem in many areas. Worst-hit were areas near the city's lakes - or what had once been lakes.

The city's Bellandur Lake also saw the froth floating on it, spilling onto the roads, as it happens whenever there is heavy rain in the IT city.

A proper drainage system might have lessened the mess the city experienced after Thursday night's heavy rain.

About Rs 800 crore was allotted in the last state budget for work on storm water drains in Bengaluru, but minister Ramalinga Reddy told NDTV that "the work would still take months to complete".

Low-lying areas, particularly Kodichikkanahalli and Bilekahalli, were the worst affected by the flooding as water entered houses following the breach of a lake.

The Fire department deployed boats in Kodichikkanahalli to evacuate stranded people from their buildings, officials said.

Agreeing that lack of proper infrastructure was also adding to the problem, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said the government was taking steps in this regard.
