UP polls: Parties go full throttle for final stretch
Lucknow: The battle for Uttar Pradesh is in its final stages and all the parties are going full throttle to win the confidence of voters. The Gandhi clan will be on campaign trail today with Sonia Gandhi addressing a rally in Saharanpur while Rahul Gandhi will be campaigning in Gautam Budh Nagar, Hathras, Bijnore, Khurja and Panchsheel Nagar.

Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati will be campaigning in Varun Gandhi's turf of Pilibhit.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Uma Bharti and Rajnath Singh will address public meetings in Aligarh.

And as the assembly elections get ready for the sixth phase, the campaign speeches are getting more and more colourful. Ms Bharti took her principal opponents, Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday.

"What is Mayawati's status? She used to ask for votes on a cycle with oil in her hair. What was Mulayam Singh's status? With wrestling and buffaloes in his house, he filled his family's stomach. Today they have a chopper so much so that that even the masseur comes in a chopper," she said.

"Today Mayawati is in such a condition that she is sparkling with diamonds. Mayawati has not given any benefit to her own caste. She has only helped her family. Leave the backward classes apart, Mulayam Singh has not helped  his own caste," Ms Bharati said.
