Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren today resigned from the post and said his party, JMM, fought gallantly in the Assembly elections.

"We are as agile as ever because we sincerely and honestly governed (the state)," Soren said after handing his resignation letter to Governor Syed Ahmed.

"Now I have handed over the resignation to the Governor," he said.

Without elaborating much, Soren said on one side it was the whole country and on the other side a small party of the poor, which gallantly fought.

On whether he thought a pre-poll alliance with Congress would have been useful, Soren said he was not interested in "digging graves", but "we should learn from our mistakes".
