Assembly polls: Key candidates in Kerala
The southern state of Kerala goes to polls on Wednesday. The Congress-led UDF and the CPM-led LDF recently concluded a high-voltage campaign for polling in 140 seats.

In most constituencies, it's a straight fight. The BJP, for the first time, is trying to make inroads in the state.

Both the Left and the Congress camp were upbeat ahead of the polls. Analysts say, both Christian and Muslim votes will play a key role.

Let's take a look at the top contenders in the fray today:

  • Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan: He is heading the Left Front and will contest from Malampuzha in Palakkad district
  • Opposition leader Oommen Chandy: He is leading the UDF from Puthupally in Kottayam district
  • Ramesh Chennithala: The state Congress president who is going to contest from Harippad in Alappuzha
