Ahead of Delhi Elections, AAP, BJP Find New Ways to Voters' Hearts

An AAP rally in progress in Delhi.

New Delhi: The campaign for the Delhi elections has entered its last week and political parties are pulling all stops to woo the voter. From rallies and speeches, they have moved on to more innovative methods -- music, dance and more.

In this race to entertain and engage the voter, the Aam Aadmi Party is leading the way with its Play4Change and Dance4Democracy campaigns.

Under its Play4Change, volunteers armed with guitars move around singing patriotic songs and the catchy 'Paanch saal Kejriwal' jingle.
"Play4Change is a fun way to connect with people through music. We are not a traditional party," said popular singer Vishal Dadlani, who, along with former MTV video jockey Raghu, has been roped in by AAP for these programmes.

The Dance4Democracy is a flash mob campaign -- under which its supporters and volunteers perform in different parts of the city every day. The music includes popular Bollywood numbers -- from Jai Ho to Rang de Basanti.

The BJP is not too far behind. The party got Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal to campaign against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. In Timarpur, Baba Ramdev and Narendra Modi lookalikes proved a big draw.

The party is also relying on technology, with its "Selfie with Modi" stalls.

Inaugurated by party chief Amit Shah, 60 stalls have come up across the city, where people can get a selfie clicked on an Iphone and sensor technology with the Prime Minister. The photo can then be whatsapped or emailed.

India's oldest party, the Congress, however, is still sticking to the conventional padayatras and roadshows to connect with the city that voted it to power for three consecutive terms.
