Magnitude 5.8 quake hits southwestern Mexico: US observers

A magnitude 5.8 quake hit just off the coast of southwestern Mexico on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The temblor, which struck at 5:38 pm (2338 GMT), was centered 42 kilometers (26 miles) southwest of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional in Oaxaca state, according to the USGS.

It had a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).
