Washington: Republicans are ready to muscle legislation through the House authorising an election-year lawsuit against President Barack Obama that accuses him of exceeding his powers in enforcing his health care law.

A party-line vote is expected when the Republican-led chamber considers the measure on Wednesday.

Democrats call the lawsuit a political gimmick. They say it's aimed at stirring up Republican voters for the November elections and mollifying conservatives who want Obama impeached.

Republican leaders say Obama has violated his constitutional duty to faithfully execute the laws. They say he has enforced laws as he wants to, dangerously shifting power to the presidency from Congress.

Some conservatives have called for impeachment. House Speaker John Boehner says he has no plans to do that.

Democrats are using impeachment to raise money for their campaigns.
