Five Killed in Mexico in Raid on Crime Gang Training Camp

Coatzacoalcos, Mexico: Mexican soldiers killed five gunmen on Tuesday who were allegedly guarding a ranch used as an organized crime training camp, police said.

Earlier this month another similar training ranch was found in the same state, Veracruz in the east, a police official said.

Veracruz is a key point of passage for illegal drugs being shipped from South America to the United States. It is a battleground for rival drug trafficking cartels.

Two men and two women allegedly undergoing training were arrested in Tuesday's raid, said an official with the state police who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The ranch was in the village of La Antigua near the town of Tihuatlan. Press reports said the armed forces seized rifles and other equipment at the ranch.

Police found the facility by acting on a tip about a stolen truck, which they followed to the ranch.

On September 1 another ranch allegedly used to train people for organized crime was found in the town of Acultzingo.

In that raid three people were killed and 33 were arrested.
