Earthquake Strikes China-Myanmar Border Area
Beijing, China: A moderately strong earthquake has struck an area along China's southwestern border with Myanmar. There was no immediate word on injuries or damage.

Chinese and U.S. earthquake monitors said the quake Friday struck a mountainous area on the western edge of China's Yunnan province. The Chinese earthquake center put the magnitude at 6.1, while the U.S. Geological Survey said it was 5.9.

China's mountainous southwest suffers frequent earthquakes. In August, a quake in Yunnan killed five people.
