'Sania Mirza is a Symbol of Pride for India': Reactions on Row Over BJP Leader's Controversial Remark
New Delhi: Telangana BJP leader K Laxman on Wednesday flayed the state government's decision to appoint tennis star Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador of the newly carved-out state, terming her as "daughter-in-law" of Pakistan and questioning her credentials for the honour.
  • This is a view on which I don't want to comment. If such things somebody says it only reflects his culture.
Murli Manohar Joshi, BJP Leader 24/07/2014
  • Well this is a point. BJP's stand is well taken.
    Subramanian Swamy, BJP Leader 24/07/2014
  • We oppose Sania Mirza being made the Telangana brand ambassador. She hasn't done anything for the Telangana state. She married a Pakistani national, someone else should be made the brand ambassador.
Hanumantha Rao, Telangana Congress Leader 24/07/2014
  • If Sania Mirza has been made brand ambassador, there is nothing wrong in it. Why doesn't the BJP protest against foreign coaches? It shows their narrow mindset.
Naresh Agarwal, Samajwadi Party Leader 24/07/2014
  • She can marry any one, she plays for India. She is the symbol of pride for India.
Naresh Agarwal, Samajwadi Party Leader 24/07/2014
  • Such statements by a BJP leader is condemnable. Sania Mirza is a matter of pride, to make her the ambassador is a good step.
    Rashid Alvi, Congress Leader 24/07/2014
  • Sania Mirza is a daughter of India. She has brought innumerable laurels to the country in the game of Tennis. She is a brand ambassador!
    Kiran Bedi, Former Top Cop
  • We should welcome Telangana government's decision of choosing Sania Mirza as its brand ambassador.
    Mayawati, BSP chief
