Narendra Modi Flashes BJP's Party Symbol: Who Said What
Today, after casting his vote, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi took a selfie that went viral online and also invited a host of criticism by the opposition and the Election Commission. Mr Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct by posing for a picture with the BJP's party symbol, a lotus. Parties are not allowed to campaign within 100 metres of a polling booth on voting day. An FIR has been filed against him.
  • To date in my entire life, not even a single FIR was registered against me, not even for wrong-side scooter driving, and not even for wrong parking.

  • There should be action, not only against Narendra Modi but the BJP as such for their repeated violation of the model code of conduct, for their total violation of the limit of election expenses.

  • You see, they have asked for an FIR against the media for asking questions. If that's the situation, I think the legality is in serious issue.

  • By showing the party symbol and by urging people to vote for lotus, Modi has proved that he has nothing to do with ethics and laws. He is an opportunist and he can do whatever he wishes to.

  • We have the highest respect for Election Commission. I must say that he has not violated any norms. He has commented beyond 100 meters of polling booth. I think Congress is frustrated now. They are always complaining and I think they have accepted their defeat.
    Ravi Shankar Prasad 30-4-2014
  • This is a massive over reaction on part of Election Commission. This is a minor mistake and should be treated in that spirit. This was a completely unplanned event.
    Naresh Gujral, SAD 30-4-2014
  • When you have your BJP's PM candidate flaunting the BJP symbol so it cannot be a bigger violation of model code of conduct. Therefore it becomes necessary for the EC to take actions on this to maintain the sanctity of the elections.
