Puducherry: A delegation of various trade unions today urged Chief Minister Rangasamy to take steps to restore normalcy in Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh, where a top official of a company was lynched by its workers after a trade union leader allegedly died in police action.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions Secretary V Perumal, who along with leaders of All India Trade Union Congress, Indian National Trade Union Congress and Pattali Labour Union met Rangasamy, said they presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking government's intervention for restoration of law and order in Yanam, which they said was in "shambles"  after the incident.

He said they asked the government to sanction a solatium of Rs 25 lakh to the family of Murali Mohan, the trade union leader in Regency Ceramics who was killed in the police action yesterday.

They also demanded the government to pay Rs 10 lakh each to the nine persons injured in police firing, he said.

Meanwhile Puducherry unit of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam demanded for a judicial probe into the incidents.

Agitated workers of Regency Ceramics went on a rampage yesterday after their leader Murali Mohan was allegedly killed in police action outside the factory and attacked the residence of President (Operations) K C Chandrasekhar, resulting in his fatal head injuries.
