Three-tier management system to protect wetlands

ThiruvananthapuramThe Kerala government has decided to institute a three-tier management committee with a view to protect wetlands and natural lakes in the state.

 The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The system would comprise officials of the Wetland Authority chaired by Chief Minister, Steering Committee under the Chief Secretary and the Wetland Board, an official release said.

The Centre had offered all technical and financial assistance to the management action plan for protection of wetlands and lakes, the release said.
