Tamil Nadu Workers, Stranded in Iraq, Reach Home

Chennai: Seven Tamil Nadu workers, stranded in war-torn Iraq for several months, arrived in Chennai today with the help of Central and State governments, airport authorities said today.

The seven men, all natives of Madurai District, flew to Sharjah from an undisclosed airport in Iraq before arriving early morning.

They were received by State government authorities and taken to their native place by a bus.

All of them were construction workers and were taken to Iraq by an agent who promised them hefty salaries which, however, turned out to be false.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rains, a flight from Abu Dhabi with 146 passengers was diverted to Bangalore, airport authorities added.
