ChennaiThe Tamil Nadu government on Thursday allocated about Rs 120 crore for different initiatives, including towards women and child health care.

As part of the Integrated Child Development Services scheme providing nutritious supplementary food to pregnant women and lactating mothers, besides children in the age group of six months to three years, the government had granted Rs 190 crore in the 2012-13 budget.

Following a need for more funding towards the programme, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has allocated an additional Rs 100 crore, taking the overall sum to Rs 290 crore this year, an official release said.

Further, she sanctioned Rs 19.25 crore towards taking up repair works at houses constructed by NGOs as part of tsunami rehabilitation.

A total of over 12,035 houses in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Tuticorin, Kancheepuram and Tirunelveli will be covered, the release said.
