Special status for Hyderabad-Karnataka region welcomed

Bangalore: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwar on Friday welcomed the Union Government's decision to move a bill to bring the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region under special status to help faster development.

Districts in the region like Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Koppal, Yadagiri and Bellary have remained backward and the special status tag would help bring more funds for development of the area, he said, adding that the state government should fully cooperate with the centre in this endeavour.

The Centre's decision should be welcomed by all political parties in Karnataka, Mr Parameshwar said.
